Hydrogen fuel cell material

Kumyang Co., Ltd. is growing as a key member of the hydrogen economy
Global Fuel Cell Stack Provider!
Selected as a new future business in the field of hydrogen fuel cell materials, Kumyang has signed a transfer contract with the Korea Institute of Science and Technology (KIST), a leader in the field of fuel cell research, for the micro-nano particle manufacturing and adsorption technology. We have established a joint research center for development activities, and are devoting ourselves to R&D for commercialization and securing the technology.

We are providing an impetus to the development of core materials for fuel cells with the highest performance through various collaborations and technical support with excellent researchers within the Korea Institute of Science and Technology.

Kumyang aims to establish an integrated production system for fuel cell stacks by expanding the business area from platinum catalysts and MEA to fuel cell stack development. With the goal of becoming a global fuel cell stack provider, we will grow as a key member of the hydrogen economy.

The world's first developed ultrafine nanoparticle manufacturing technology

The company's ultrafine nanoparticle manufacturing technology is a key technology that maximizes the efficiency of hydrogen fuel cells, and is a major factor in lowering stack prices, which account for a significant portion of the cost of hydrogen vehicles.

The size of nanoparticles and catalytic reactivity are inversely proportional, so the smaller the nanoparticles, the higher the catalytic reactivity of the same amount. For example, the amount of platinum required for a hydrogen fuel cell vehicle is about 25g, but if the size of nanostructured platinum particles is reduced in half, the same level of efficiency can be obtained by using only 12.5g.

With the current nanoparticle catalytic converter technology, synthesis conditions and production of nanoparticles with consistent size are difficult, so it is expensive to manufacture nanoparticles in large quantities, requiring strict process conditions. However, our technology is an innovative technology that can synthesize ultra-fine nanoparticles and ultra-fine alloy nanoparticles with consistent size of 2 nanometers in large quantities by simply stirring in a few chemical substances.

Through our research, we expect that the catalyst usage of hydrogen fuel cell vehicles can be reduced to less than 10g in future, and the entry into the hydrogen economy will accelerate further. Hydrogen fuel cells will replace the existing internal combustion engine and be used for a variety of mobility purposes, from eco-friendly hydrogen fuel cell vehicles to construction machinery, trains, ships, hydrogen electric trams, drones, and urban aircraft, UAM.
